Abstract

SMK Methodist 8 Medan is one of the vocational high schools located in the city of Medan and plays an important role in providing educational services to the community. In the new student admission process, the school still uses a manual registration system that is considered inefficient, prone to data entry errors, and time-consuming in terms of managing and disseminating information. Furthermore, limited access to information poses a challenge for prospective students and parents in obtaining information quickly and accurately. The theories used in this study include web-based information systems, new student registration, and the prototype method as an approach to system development. The objective of this study is to design and develop a web-based new student registration information system that can streamline the registration process and improve the quality of service at the school. The method used in this study is the prototype method, which allows for the gradual development of the system by involving users in the evaluation and refinement process. The stages of this method include requirements gathering, planning, model design, prototype development, and testing and feedback. The system was developed using PHP and MySQL, with system design based on UML. The result of this study is a web-based new student registration information system capable of facilitating the online registration process, document uploads, data verification, payment of registration fees, and the announcement of selection results in a fast and structured manner
