1. Focus, Scope, and Manuscript Eligibility

MJ publishes scholarly work from theoretical, empirical, methodological, applied, critical, and interdisciplinary perspectives in the following broad areas:

A manuscript must present a clear scholarly problem, appropriate evidence or argument, and a contribution relevant to its field. Submission does not guarantee external review or acceptance.

3. Language, Length, and File Preparation

• Manuscripts may be written in clear academic English or Indonesian. English is strongly encouraged for international readership.
• An Indonesian-language manuscript must include both Indonesian and English titles and abstracts. An English-language manuscript must include an English title and abstract; an Indonesian translation may be added where requested.
• Submit an editable DOCX file prepared with the official template. PDF may be supplied only as an additional reference copy when requested.
• The manuscript should normally be 8–14 pages, including references, tables, figures, notes, and appendices. A longer manuscript requires a clear scholarly justification and editorial approval.
• Use US Letter paper, 1-inch margins, Times New Roman 10.5 or 11 pt body text, and the spacing and heading styles already provided in the template.
• Use standard international units and define all nonstandard abbreviations at first use.

4. Title Page, Authorship, and Anonymization

Prepare a separate title page containing:

• a concise, informative title of no more than 18 words;
• each author's full name without academic title, agreed author order, institutional affiliation, city and country;
• the corresponding author's institutional email address and complete contact information;
• ORCID identifiers, which are strongly encouraged for all authors;
• article type, subject section, word count, and number of tables and figures; and
• funding, acknowledgements, and any author-identifying declarations that should not appear in the anonymized file.

5. Abstract and Keywords

The abstract must be 150–250 words in one paragraph and should state the background or problem, objective, method, principal results, and conclusion or contribution. Include key numerical findings when appropriate. Do not include citations, tables, figures, undefined abbreviations, or information not reported in the main text.

Provide 3–6 specific English keywords separated by semicolons. Select terms that improve discoverability and avoid simply repeating the complete title.

6. Recommended Manuscript Structure

The structure may be adapted for humanities, legal, conceptual, review, or technical scholarship when the alternative structure is conventional for the field and presents the argument and evidence transparently.

7. Methods, Reporting Standards, and Research Ethics

• Use a discipline-appropriate reporting guideline when applicable, such as CONSORT, STROBE, PRISMA, COREQ/SRQR, CARE, or ARRIVE, and submit a checklist when requested.
• Report ethical approval, approval number and date, informed consent, privacy protections, clinical registration, biosafety, animal welfare, permits, or community permissions as applicable.
• Research involving people, identifiable personal data, animals, sensitive communities, protected environments, or controlled materials must comply with relevant institutional, national, and international requirements.
• Describe analytical software and versions when material to reproducibility, but do not substitute software names for an explanation of the analysis.
• Do not fabricate, falsify, selectively suppress, manipulate, or misrepresent data, images, citations, findings, or research procedures.

8. Tables, Figures, Equations, and Supplementary Files

• Number tables and figures consecutively with Arabic numerals and cite each item in the text.
• Place a concise table title above the table and a complete figure caption below the figure. Define abbreviations and symbols in a note.
• Submit editable tables rather than screenshots. Avoid duplicating the same values in text, a table, and a figure.
• Figures must be original, clear, and readable at publication size. Preferred resolution is at least 300 dpi for photographs and 600 dpi for line art.
• Authors must obtain written permission for copyrighted material and provide appropriate attribution.
• Number displayed equations consecutively when they are referenced in the text and define every symbol.
• Label supplementary files clearly, describe their purpose, and cite each file in the manuscript.

9. Citations and References

Use the author–date system and reference-list format of APA Style, 7th edition. Every in-text citation must have a corresponding reference, and every reference must be cited in the manuscript. Arrange references alphabetically and apply a hanging indent.

• Use a reference manager such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote to improve consistency.
• Include DOI links in the form https://doi.org/xxxxx whenever available.
• Use sufficient, directly relevant scholarship. Research articles should normally engage with at least 20 scholarly sources where the field and article type permit.
• Prioritize peer-reviewed primary literature; as a quality target, at least 80% of references should normally be scholarly journal sources and most should be from the previous ten years, while necessary seminal or historical works remain acceptable.
• Avoid citation padding, citation cartels, irrelevant self-citation, unreliable sources, and references not read by the authors.

Place the following statements after the Conclusion and before the References. Use “Not applicable” only with an appropriate explanation:

1. Register or log in to MJ OJS and complete all required manuscript and author metadata.
2. Upload the separate title page, anonymized manuscript, tables/figures or supplementary files where applicable, and required declarations or reporting checklists.
3. Confirm originality, exclusive submission, authorship approval, ethical compliance, copyright permissions, competing-interest disclosure, and acceptance of journal policies.
4. Track the submission and respond to all editorial correspondence through OJS. Email or messaging applications may support communication but do not replace the official OJS record.
5. For a revision, submit a clean manuscript, a marked or tracked version when requested, and a point-by-point response to every editor and reviewer comment.
6. Submit revisions by the deadline stated in the decision letter. Request an extension before the deadline when justified. An overdue revision may be closed or treated as a new submission at the editor's discretion.

Submissions that fail technical or ethical checks may be returned for correction or declined before external review. The peer-review and editorial decision process is governed by the journal's Editorial and Peer Review Policy.
