An author may appeal when there is evidence of a material procedural error, factual misunderstanding, unmanaged conflict of interest, or review that clearly falls outside the journal’s stated criteria. Disagreement with reviewer judgment alone is not sufficient.
Complaints may concern delays, communication, website services, policy application, confidentiality, discrimination, reviewer or editor conduct, or suspected misconduct. The complaint should state the event, people or manuscript involved, relevant dates, evidence, and requested resolution. Anonymous complaints may be considered when they provide verifiable evidence.
A person who is the subject of a complaint will not decide it. Information is shared only as needed for fair review. If the complaint concerns the Editor-in-Chief, it is referred to the publisher or an uninvolved senior representative. If internal review does not resolve a publication-ethics matter, the complainant may seek advice from an appropriate external body; the journal will cooperate with legitimate oversight.
