Expressions of Concern

Jurnal Pusat Manajemen (PUSMAN) · e-ISSN 3048-3840

An Expression of Concern is a visible notice alerting readers to serious, unresolved questions about a published article when reliable conclusions cannot yet be reached or an investigation will take substantial time. It is not a finding of misconduct.

When it may be used

  • Evidence about the reliability or integrity of an article is inconclusive but sufficiently serious to warn readers.
  • An investigation by the journal, institution, funder, regulator, or another responsible body is underway or materially delayed.
  • There are credible concerns about data, ethics, authorship, peer review, or publication process that cannot promptly be resolved.
  • The journal has reason to believe an investigation was not fair, independent, or conclusive.

Notice and linking

The notice will identify and link to the article, explain the nature of the concern without defamatory or speculative language, state the status of any inquiry, and be freely accessible. The article will link back to the notice. Confidential information is protected while sufficient information is provided for readers to understand the risk.

Review and outcome

The editor periodically reviews the case and updates the notice when material information becomes available. The final outcome may be no further action, a correction, or a retraction. If the concern is resolved, the record will explain the resolution; the earlier notice remains part of the publication history.
